Catching Bait Fish in PA

Pennsylvania requires a permit for catching live bait with a throw or cast net over 4 ft in diameter. The penalty for not having a net permit is $250.00. This net permit is available for $10.00 by clicking on this link which will take you to appropriate page on the PA Fish and Boat's website. Simply print and fill out the form and return it to the fish and boat commission with a check for the fee. They will process it and send it back to you. We can not sell live bait from the lake nor can you buy our natural bait, gizzard shad, or alewife, from any dealers. If you wish to buy live bait, you can purchase live trout at some area bait dealers, and these are among the best alternatives for purchased bait.
